A super rare one owner MANUAL transmission station wagon. It was ordered new by Thorsten Lill, an East German who fell in love with the Saab automobiles after the fall of the Berlin wall in 1989. He first thought the Saab automobiles were one of the ugliest cars he had ever seen, but after learning more about the car he came to appreciate them for their safety and aircraft heritage. His son helped make an excellent video of the car’s story seen below. Tom found this car one day while browsing Facebook of all places!
As a side note, Thorsten lost a newly ordered 2003 9-5 station wagon in December 2002 when a container ship full of new Saab’s, BMW’s & Volvo’s accidentally sunk in the North Sea!
From The NY Times
“The ship that sank, the Tricolor, was carrying 2,862 cars, including BMW’s, Volvos and Saabs, worth $40 million to $50 million, a spokesman for the Norwegian shipping company, Wallenius Wilhelmsen Lines, said in Oslo. All 24 crew members were rescued after the collision, in the early morning hours at the entrance of the Dover Strait between Britain and France”.
