Howard Davies, another “Old SAAB Nut” from Ohio, heard about a wrecked Sonett II setting in a shed and contacted the owner about purchasing the car. Howard bought the car in 1985 and soon started to restore it. He became very disenchanted with the project due to the lack of support available from SAAB for the restoration of one of their old cars.
The original owner of this car wrecked the front end 2 weeks after he bought it. The car had only 00457 miles. There was no insurance on the car so it set in a shed for the next 18 years. It also survived a tornado somewhere in its past!
I found out about the car while at the Scranton Mountain SAAB Convention and purchased it on the way home. I have since totally restored the car to original specs, but left as much “patina” of originality as I could! If you are restoring a Sonett II or are planning to restore a Sonett II, this car is the ultimate model to follow.
