In 1980’s Japan, it was all the rage among the upper-class to import left hand drive European cars to drive around Japan. This example is no different. This particular 9000 was imported into Japan by Saab Mizwa, who was an importer and distributor for both Saab and Porsche in the 80’s and 90’s. In 2021, this car was purchased and imported into the US, then later auctioned off on the online car bidding site Bringatrailer, where it was sold to Keith, who later donated this car to the Museum.
The car is displayed with two bikes mounted on top. The grey and black one was acquired when Saab was shut down in 2012; a 2007 collaboration with the Danish bicycle manufacturer Biomega, it was used by Saab at various autoshows, typically mounted on various SportCombi wagons.
The second bicycle was sold in 1999, exclusive to the Gary Fisher edition Saab 9-5 SportCombi wagon, which was limited to just 650 units. The car is displayed with the complimentary Saab-Gary Fisher leather bag and racing jacket, displayed in the interior and outside of the car.
You can see the car and both the bikes along with the rest of our collection in our museum!
